Building Works Update

Due to good weather and diligent craftsmen, the work on the outside is going well. The stone repairers have now completed their work. They have used a mix of crushed stone and lime to repair small sections of weathered stone. Several samples in a range of colours were prepared for the architect to choose the best match. The chosen mix was fixed in place using stainless steel wire armatures. Also on site has been a stonemason and a painter who has been painting the cast iron downpipes. Jon Callan, the glazier has been repairing windows. Other jobs still to be done include repairing small sections of the roof.

Words of thanks and appreciation

We just want to say a very big thank you to all at St John’s Church who contributed towards making our wedding such a special event.

Your warmth, love and support shown to us have been almost overwhelming at times. There are not always words to describe how we have felt as you’ve shown such kindness to us.

Faith has over the last 12 months received from so many of you a very warm welcome and feels already very much part of the church family here at St John’s.

The next few months are not going to be easy with all the commuting to Weston and back. However, we are really looking forward to next year around March (God willing) when we hope to settle in Weymouth and become very much part of the life at St John’s Church.

May the Lord richly bless each one of you as you serve Him.

God bless

Henry and Faith Harley

Aberystwyth— One Year On
Written by Mike Miles
Tuesday, 19 February 2008 16:18

I’ve now finished my first year studying Geography at Aberystwyth University. After passing my exams a few weeks ago, I am officially a second year student, which is a bit scary – the year’s gone so fast!

I really appreciated people praying for me in the first few weeks of term as I settled in. Joining the Christian Union made it easy – everyone was so welcoming and I quickly settled into St. Michael’s Church. I’ve been on a couple of weekends away with church – these were great opportunities to get to know each other and God better.

CU has really shown me the importance of evangelism – a weekly event is where we give out tea and toast to students coming out of the Student Union in the very early hours of the morning. We find it really rewarding, however it does result in the odd 9am lecture being missed!

As well as going to a few lectures I have also joined the University Wind Band, I’m hoping to join the Kayak Club later this year and I’m looking forward to sharing a house with 5 other girls.

When I first applied, I hadn’t felt that Aberystwyth was for me, but now I can see that it’s where God wanted me to be.

Focus… Crosslinks

St John’s with St Mary’s have supported Crosslinks since 1922 when it was launched as BCMS - the Bible Churchmen’s Missionary Society. Our forbears recognised the need to teach the apostolic witness of who Jesus is and why he came. This is why they chose Revelation 1:9 as their motto “for the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ”.

Crosslinks is an international mission society with its roots in the Bible, working largely within the worldwide Anglican Communion. Crosslinks aim is to make Christ known through the teaching of God's Word in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is done mostly by organising gospel partnerships across cultural boundaries. God's Word is the authority for all this work, therefore Crosslinks are creative in mission and continually developing fresh ways of taking God's Word to God's world.

During the past few months Kate Randle has been working with the South African Sports Ministry Organisation in relation to the World Cup. Thank God for all the volunteers who helped served during the season. Pray for them as they return to their countries and particularly for the Brazilian group who will now start making plans for their outreach programme in 2014. Pray for all the children who heard something of the love of God through the outreach.
